Remembering Beautiful Things in the Age of Coronavirus

We’ve been under self-isolation here in Honolulu for - what is it now? three weeks? - and after posting too many grim articles on Facebook like many others I decided to post something more uplifting. In particular, I wanted to post something to remind everyone, including myself, that beautiful things still exist in the world.

I’m fortunate to have experienced many, many, MANY beautiful things so of course which one to talk about was a hard choice. And many of my best memories came from a time before there were cell phone videos to capture it, so those are out. But among the many trips I took to Fiji when we were planning a scientific meeting there several years ago were a few post-work trips to the outer islands where I was able to indulge one of my favorite hobbies, snorkeling. (I actually prefer snorkeling to scuba diving.)

So without further ado, to remind you (and me) that there are still beautiful things in the world that we should cherish all the more when things get back to normal, here is some video I took of a snorkeling jaunt in the Yasawa Islands in Fiji in July 2013. Hope you enjoy.
